Calif. Attorney General Investigates Bridgepoint Education Inc.

THE CHRONICLE OF HIGHER EDUCATION.  JANUARY 14, 2013.  The parent company of Ashford University said in a corporate filing on Monday that it had received an investigative subpoena from the office of Attorney General Kamala D. Harris of California, requesting documents since March 2009. Bridgepoint said the request was related to the attorney general’s “investigation of for-profit educational institutions,” though the company did not identify the specifics of that inquiry.

Pursuant to the Investigative Subpoena, the Attorney General has requested documents and detailed information for the time period March 1, 2009, to present. We are evaluating the Investigative Subpoena and intend to comply with the Attorney General’s request.
