October 28, 2021
Today, the White House released a modified version of President Biden’s Build Back Better agenda in an effort to rally support from progressive and moderate Democratic lawmakers for his slimmed down $1.75 trillion plan. The proposal increases the maximum Pell Grant award by $550 for each award year 2022-2023 through 2025-2026.
Congress subsequently released a draft bill excluding proprietary institutions from the increased Pell Grant awards. To view the bill, click here. To read the new framework, click here.
Call to Action
We urge all CECU members to reach out to their Representatives and Senators to implore them to oppose excluding students attending proprietary institutions from the expanded Pell Grant. Given the partisan nature of Democratic leadership’s plan to pass the Build Back Better bill along party lines, we urge members to prioritize communications with Democratic lawmakers.
The Build Back Better plan is still subject to change and CECU expects legislative proposals to continue to be modified over the next 3-5 days. To maximize the impact of your outreach, we ask you to reach out as soon as possible.
