Healthcare workers reported staffing-related care disruptions and high rates of burnout, as the industry faces an ongoing staffing shortage and a misalignment between hospital executives and frontline employees.
Hospital staffing issues impacted the quality of care, with 85% of nurses, 75% of allied professionals and 72% of physicians reporting care disruptions, according to AMN Healthcare’s 2026 Workforce Outlook Survey.
AMN (NYSE: AMN) ranked fourth on SIA’s 2026 list of largest healthcare staffing firms, holding a 5.6% market share.
Most respondents experienced at least moderate burnout, but it was particularly elevated among nurses and allied professionals, who provide diagnostic, technical, therapeutic and support services. Among nurses, 54% reported high or very high burnout, followed by allied professionals at 51%. Physicians were lower at 30%, the report found.
