NASFAA Requests Technical Amendments to the FAFSA Simplification and Future Acts
June 12, 2024
Dear Chairs Sanders, Foxx, Wyden, and Smith; and Ranking Members Cassidy, Scott, Crapo, and Neal,
On behalf of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) and our 3,000 member institutions, we write to offer our recommendations for technical amendments to the FAFSA Simplification Act, which was enacted in late 2020 as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, and the Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act, which became law in 2019.
NASFAA represents nearly 29,000 financial aid professionals who serve 16 million students each year at colleges and universities in all sectors throughout the country. NASFAA member
institutions serve nine out of every 10 undergraduates in the U.S.
Now that both laws have been fully implemented, we and our members have identified several areas we believe require technical amendments to fully realize the goals Congress intended to
achieve through this legislation.
