FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – More than a year ago, Community and Unitedk College launched a partnership to train the next generation of nurses.
It’s called the Nursing Education Pathway, powered by Unitek College, and it aims to help solve the Central Valley’s nursing shortage.
Anthony Hernandez, a nursing student, is part of the first cohort to train under the new nursing education partnership.
“So as a monitor tech, you work watching the rhythms and seeing the pay. You don’t see the patient physically. You get to see the rhythm,” he said. “The nurse does still look at the rhythm, but I want to be able to care for them a lot more than what I was able to do before.”
After working as a monitor tech for several years at Community Regional Medical Center, Hernandez says returning to school, in a place he knows well, felt natural.
